Baked Ziti Topped with Burrata Cheese

This is our new absolutely favorite baked ziti! It is inspired by What Sweet Eats, and she had me so intrigued with using Burrata cheese. This is going to be making a monthly appearance at our house- it is that good! Let me know how you like our version of this amazing Ziti- it is great for a large crowd or for having leftovers. We had this for two dinners this week.

Baked Ziti with Burrata Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ziti pasta
  • 1 TBSP olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 small Vidalia onion, diced
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
  • 1 -2 zucchini, diced
  • 3 TBSP red wine
  • 32 oz. marinara sauce
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 8 oz. freshly grated mozzarella
  • (2) 8 oz. balls of Burrata cheese
  • basil, Italian parsley for garnish
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees (F)
  • Cook ziti according to package directions.
  • While the pasta is cooking, heat a skillet over medium-low heat and add olive oil and saute the onion and garlic.
  • Add salt and pepper.
  • Add basil, oregano, red pepper flakes and stir well.
  • Next, add the zucchini and cook 3 more minutes. Then, add the red wine.
  • Add the marinara sauce to the skillet and stir in the parmesan cheese.
  • When the pasta has cooked, drain the water and transfer the pasta to a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Next, layer the marinara sauce over the pasta and then add the mozzarella cheese. Toss it a little to stir the cheese into the pasta.
  • Break apart the burrata cheese and add to the top of the pasta dish.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Top with fresh parsley or basil after the ziti is removed from the oven.
  • Enjoy!
