Make-your-own calzones is the epitome of an easy dinner night! Especially if you buy the dough at the grocery market bakery! We buy our pizza dough at Publix in the bread/bakery section. But, my husband also likes to make the dough when he has a chance. It really is simple to make pizza dough- and it tastes great! You simply add your choice of marinara sauce, cheese, and any toppings...fold it, brush with olive oil, and bake it! So easy and so delish!
Some of the toppings our family likes~ basil, black olives, pepperoni, proscuitto, feta cheese, mozzarella cheese. Anything that you enjoy on a pizza can be folded inside of the calzone. Have fun and enjoy!
My husband swears by this Bobby Flay recipe if you want to make your own dough. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/pizza-dough-recipe-1921714
Calzones
1-2 containers Pizza Dough (pre-made from grocery store bakery)
mozzarella cheese, shredded (enough to put in all of the calzones you will make)
marinara sauce
riccota cheese
olive oil
black olives
fresh basil
Divide premade dough into equal portions to equal number of calzones you want to make.
Flatten dough into a circle.
On half of dough circle, add marinara sauce, riccota, mozzarella cheese, black olives, and basil in layers.
Fold circles over to allow dough to cover the filling and press to hold.
Vent top of calzone with fork or knife to allow heat to escape while baking.
Brush the top of each calzone with olive oil.
Bake at 400 degrees (F) for 15-20 minutes or until calzone is golden brown.
Serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
